President Trump was referring to the more than $15 billion in funding the White House requested to construct and repair the border wall in the supplemental bill that the Senate rejected on Tuesday. “I don’t know why you would want to continue to allow millions and millions of people to pour into our country illegally,” the President said. Speaking about the rejection of the immigration bill, the President said “I don’t blame Congress,” adding that “somebody had to take the tough position.” “But what’s going on is disgraceful and frankly, I think it’s a disgrace to our country,” he said. “If the Democrats would sit down, we’d be talking about DACA. We have a great solution on DACA.” In response to the call from President Trump for border security funding, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters in the Capitol that “if President Trump is serious about border security, it’s time for Congress to act.” Asked if Democrats would work with the White House on DACA, Schumer did not answer. “I’m not going to comment on what the president will do next. All I can say is this: I believe DACA is a good solution,” Schumer said. Mr. Trump used the meeting with Mr. Santos as a platform to lambast the Senate for rejecting his legislation to end the DACA program. “The Democrats seem intent on having illegal immigrants, rather than United States citizens, be part of your constituency,” the President said.
